Trekking for a Cause: The Jersey Cheshire Home Vietnam Challenge
In October 2025, thirty-three determined fundraisers set off on an extraordinary adventure — a multi-day trek through the scenic yet challenging landscapes of Vietnam, raising money for the Home. We announced on 18 October that our “intrepid trekkers” were “walking for those who can’t,” symbolising their solidarity with the Home’s residents — adults with disabilities who rely on its care and support. The group aimed to raise over £60,000 to help maintain the Home’s vital work in promoting independence, dignity, and community inclusion.
The journey began with excitement and anticipation. On 19 October, the team enjoyed their “last supper” before setting off early the next morning, ready to face both physical and emotional challenges. By 20 October, they had completed their first day of trekking, describing Vietnam as a “beautiful country.” That evening, they stayed in their first homestay, gaining an authentic glimpse into local life after a long and rewarding day.
The second day, on 21 October, proved demanding. The trekkers reported a “very challenging trek,” yet everyone “did amazingly well.” Despite fatigue and steep climbs, morale remained high, strengthened by shared purpose and teamwork. Their determination reflected the everyday resilience of the Home’s residents, for whom this challenge was undertaken.
By 22 October, exhaustion was setting in, but the group’s spirit stayed strong. Their post, “Survived day three,” captured both relief and pride.
The final day, on 23 October, brought rain and mud, adding to the difficulty. Despite slippery trails and tired legs, the trekkers pushed on, describing it as a “wet one today with lots of mud.” Their closing reflection — “Walking for those who can’t” — perfectly summed up the journey’s purpose and emotional depth.
Across six days, the Vietnam trek became far more than a fundraising trip. It was a moving display of endurance, teamwork, and compassion. Through every uphill climb and muddy trail, the trekkers embodied the mission of Jersey Cheshire Home — perseverance, dignity, and kindness.
Their journey not only celebrated the natural beauty of Vietnam but also the human spirit’s capacity to give back, showing that every step taken in unity can make a lasting difference.
