Bringing Laughter and Friendship with Julia Lydford

We’re thrilled to introduce Julia Lydford, a dedicated volunteer whose warmth, humour and kindness have made her a much-loved part of life at Jersey Cheshire Home.

How it all began

“After retiring from a busy job, I was looking for the right volunteering opportunity. I visited a few places, but nothing felt quite right, until I saw an advert on Facebook for Jersey Cheshire Home. As soon as I walked in I felt completely at ease. From the first day, I was supported and made to feel welcome.”

Getting involved

Julia has been volunteering for over five years, running a Tuesday quiz, organising games, painting nails and even helping residents write their life stories!

She’s supported fundraising events, served meals, helped in the gardens and now lends a hand in our Community Centre too.

“We make the quiz fun and relaxed, the main aim is to have fun. The variety keeps it interesting and the residents have become real friends.”

What she loves most

“I enjoy the mix of things I get to do, and the residents are always so happy to see me. We have a great time together and their appreciation means the world.”

Favourite memories

“I have so many happy memories, especially of those who are sadly no longer with us. Playing games like dominoes or Trivial Pursuit, those were very happy times with very special people.”

Why Jersey Cheshire Home is special

“Everyone is kind, helpful and always smiling. As a volunteer, you feel truly appreciated and that means a great deal.”

Personal impact

“Volunteering gives structure and purpose to my week. It reminds me to be grateful and helps me keep life’s little aches and pains in perspective!”

Encouraging others

“I told my friend Sue what a great place it was to volunteer, so she came along for a visit. Now she volunteers too!”

We’re so grateful to Julia for the joy and compassion she brings every week. Volunteers like her truly enrich the life our residents.
